To protect against this potential liability shift, merchants are encouraged to adopt EMV chip technology at their point of sale. Only choose this reader if your Authorize.Net account supports EM, as there are different credit card processors used by Authorize.Net for different account types, and each processor will add support for EMV chip transactions at a different date. Plese read the Authorize.Net EMV FAQ page for more information.

The IDTECH Shuttle is a two-track, encryption capable, audio jack-connected card reader, that is powered by an audio tone from the iPad. The IDTECH Shuttle supports TDES and AES encryption using DUKPT Key Management, and it can read up to 2 tracks of information from credit cards, signature debit cards, gift cards, loyalty cards, and more, with a single swipe in either direction.

Before being shipped to you, the card readers are injected with the MeS encryption key for the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway. This key injection is performed in a PCI Certified Key Injection Facility, so only the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway can decrypt the card data. Even if the encrypted card data is somehow intercepted, it is unusable for any other party except for the Payment Gateway for which it was encrypted.

Because of this key injection, any similar card reader from a different credit card processor will not work with the posIPOS iPad application, and the encrypted card readers that are shipped to you can only be used with the posIPOS app and the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway.

IMPORTANT: When powering on the IDTECH Shuttle credit card reader on the credit card payment screen, in order to provide enough power for the Shuttle to read and encrypt card data, the iPad audio volume will be set to maximum, and a high frequency tone will be send to the audio jack. This tone can be very painful to a listener if they have connected speakers or headphones.
